Step into the world of figurative ceramics with our 8-week Sculptural Ceramics course, led by the incredible Jess Riva Cooper. Whether you're inspired by human forms, animals, or abstract creations, this course is your gateway to combining functional pottery with imaginative sculptural forms, all while mastering essential techniques.
Here’s What You’ll Learn:
- Refine your handbuilding skills, learning to create and manipulate vessel forms into expressive sculptures.
- Bring your ideas to life with techniques like gesture carving, low and high relief, and sgraffito, turning clay into a three-dimensional canvas.
- Explore figurative work, whether human, animal, or abstract, using armatures, press molds, and innovative materials to shape intricate forms.
Exciting Demos Include:
- Sculpting gestural figures with guidance from a clothed life model, exploring low and high relief techniques.
- Creating a self-portrait bust using innovative armature and solid sculpting approaches.
- Making a press mold for hands or feet, ideal for adding intricate details to your sculptures.
This course is an inspiring blend of technical skill-building and creative exploration, offering everything you need to bring your visions to life in clay!
Terms and Conditions:
- Classes are for adults ages 18+
- All courses are non-refundable
- Classes cannot be rescheduled and there will be no make-up classes
- Independent Studio Time can be booked to make up class hours missed
- There are no partial refunds for missed classes
- Cracking and breaking are a natural part of the pottery process, especially when learning. Every potter experiences it, and over time, as you refine your techniques, your pieces will become more durable. Embrace the process - it's all part of the journey!

- Adults Only (kinda): Our classes are made for adults. But if you’ve got a 16-year-old who’s basically an old soul, email us!

- Flexible Lesson Plans: Your teacher might adjust the plan depending on class interest - we want the class to reflect what you want to learn. You’re here to get the most out of your time (and your money).
- Clean up: The final 20–30 minutes of each class are for cleanup. It’s all part of being in a shared studio and keeping the space ready for the next makers (and not to mention good pottery karma).
